He was a former Director for Astronomical Research, Nehru Planetarium, Mumbai. Among other awards he received the National Award for Popularization of Science and Technology in Education, Govt. of India (NCSTC/DST) in 1994. Indian Planetary Society is a Scientific and Industrial research organization awarded by Govt. of India in 2003. IPS is the recipient of the 2004 national award for ‘Best efforts in Science and Technology Popularization’ by Govt. of India as well as many other national and international awards.
